Sterile Universal Pack
Basic guidelines for prevention and control of dental infection
Nov 26 , 2019

Why does dentistry need to control infection?

Dentists and their team members will be exposed to potential infectious microorganisms in the diagnosis and treatment activities, which will lead to the spread of infectious microorganisms between people or from the environment to people, i.e. cross infection. It is very important to manage the risks related to cross infection.

Infectious diseases in dentistry

1. How does infection spread?

Many bacteria colonized in the mouth do not exist in other parts of the body or in other organisms. Most microorganisms do not cause human infection. Colonization or symbiosis of bacteria in skin, gastrointestinal tract and mouth are the basic components of health. These bacteria live in harmony with the human body, resist other more harmful bacteria and prevent their colonization, so as to protect the human body.

2. Ways of transmission of infectious diseases in dental practice

A. Direct and indirect transmission of infection;

B. Prevention of human to human transmission;

C. Prevention of indirect transmission of infection through equipment;

D. Prevention of infection through body fluids;

E. Percutaneous infection: HBV, HCV, HIV transmission;

F. Transmission of infections through air and respiratory secretions:

TB, influenza, influenza pandemic and avian influenza.

3. Impact of infection on dental diagnosis and treatment

The emergence of infectious pathogens will challenge the current dental infection control and prevention system, and the new pathogens will also affect the confidence of the public and the dental team, so we need to educate ourselves to recognize these diseases and take the right risk assessment to ensure the safety of the medical staff and the public in the dental treatment.

Countermeasures

1. Use gloves safely in dental operation, wash hands before and after wearing gloves, do not use gloves instead of hand washing.

2. Use medical mask.

3. Wear and clean uniforms.

4. Disinfection and sterilization of dental instruments.
